BTLA BROKER / 06 / FOR BUSINESSES
Transport and carrier's liability insurance (OCP).
Cargo and liability are two separate matters.
Do you carry goods, organise transport or ship your own goods? We start with your role. We help compare carrier’s liability, freight forwarder’s liability and cargo insurance against your actual operations.
For carriers, freight forwarders and businesses dispatching goods.
01 / YOUR SITUATION
For supply chain businesses.
Cover should match the activities performed. We review the needs of carriers, freight forwarders and businesses entrusting their own goods for transport.
- You carry goods domestically or internationally.
- You organise transport and use subcontractors.
- You dispatch goods and want to analyse cargo cover.
02 / SCOPE OF OUR WORK
Cover aligned with your company’s role.
The scope and availability of cover depend on the company's situation and the terms of individual offers. We also discuss limitations together.
What do we check in these areas?
Carrier's liability insurance (OCP)
We compare carrier's liability terms with the nature of the transport. We ask about goods, operating area, stops, subcontractors and clients' specific requirements.
Freight forwarder’s liability
We check the activities the business actually performs and the obligations it accepts. Describing the business as freight forwarding does not replace an analysis of processes and contracts.
Cargo
We review protection of the interest in goods being carried: cargo type, value, route and transport stages. We distinguish goods insurance from the carrier’s liability.
- Identifying roles and activities requiring analysis.
- A comparison of OCP, OCS or cargo cover.
- Discussing limits, terms and important exclusions.
- Information needed for a quotation and claim notification.
04 / HOW WE START
From a conversation to an informed decision.
What should you prepare first?
Prepare a description of carriage or transport arrangements, types of goods, destinations and current policies. Highlight unusual cargo, temperature-controlled transport and subcontractor use.
What do we check in these areas?
We get to know your operations
We establish the business's role, the cargoes and how transport is carried out.
We agree the scope of analysis
We separate the company's liability from the interest in the goods.
We discuss the terms
We compare offers and the arrangements for notifying changes and claims.
05 / BEFORE WE TALK
Worth knowing.
Does carrier’s liability insurance replace cargo cover?
No. OCP covers the carrier's liability under its contract terms. Cargo protects a specified interest in the shipment. These have different bases and scopes of cover.
Will one policy cover every type of goods?
You should not assume so. The types of cargo, their values and any special transport conditions must be disclosed and checked against the offer and exclusions.
What about transport carried out by a subcontractor?
This requires checking your own contract terms and arrangements with the subcontractor. The role actually performed, documents and wording on subcontracting carriage are important.
Can we discuss a single shipment?
Specify the type of goods, value, route and dates. We will use this to establish which solutions are worth analysing and whether further information is needed.
SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION
Before you request a quote.
What affects the cost?
- Operations, goods and transport destinations
- Turnover, subcontractors and claims history
- Limits and contractual requirements
These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.
What will help our first conversation?
- The company's role in transport
- Types of cargo and main routes
- Sample contracts and current policies
Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.
Carrier's liability or cargo — where to start?
Start by identifying whether you mean the carrier's liability or the interest in the cargo itself. These are different needs. We help separate them before comparing specific terms.
