BTLA Broker / Transport and vehicles
Cargo insurance.
Review cover for goods in transit.
Goods may belong to you even when an external company carries them. We help review cover for goods in transit and establish when transport risk rests with your business.
For goods owners, importers and exporters.
01 / Needs analysis
What will we establish before comparing quotes?
Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.
What do we check in these areas?
Goods and route
We ask about cargo type, packaging, value, transport modes and transhipments. Regular trading has different needs from a one-off machine delivery.
Delivery terms
We check how risk is divided between the seller and buyer. Commercial terms and the carrier's liability should not be the only basis for a cargo insurance decision.
Cover and sum insured
We compare covered events, restrictions for particular goods and limits per shipment and location. We also discuss claim notification requirements.
02 / Preparing for the discussion
You do not need to have all the documents straight away.
Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.
What should you prepare?
Description of goods, routes, delivery terms, maximum shipment value and expected transport volumes.
We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.
03 / An important distinction
Before you choose cover.
Is carrier's liability insurance (OCP) enough?+
OCP concerns the carrier's liability, while cargo insurance protects specified goods under the terms of the contract. The carrier's liability may be limited or may not arise in a particular situation.
What determines the price?+
It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.
SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION
Before you request a quote.
What affects the cost?
- Type, value and packaging of cargo
- Routes and modes of transport
- Delivery terms and scope of cover
These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.
What will help our first conversation?
- Description and value of the goods
- Destinations and transport methods
- Delivery terms and your business’s interest in the cargo
Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.
Does the carrier's liability insurance replace cargo cover?
You should not assume this. OCP concerns the carrier's liability, while cargo analysis concerns the interest in the goods. The scope and terms of each solution must be checked separately.
What happens after you report a claim?
We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.
