BTLA Broker / Liability and professions

Professional indemnity for IT businesses.
Check liability cover for your IT contract.

Implementation, system maintenance and technology consulting involve different obligations to a client. We help describe IT services and analyse liability cover for errors in their delivery.

For developers, IT companies and technology service providers.

01 / Needs analysis

What will we establish before comparing quotes?

Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.

What do we check in these areas?

Services and liability

We ask about software development, integration, hosting and administration. The scope of work, project acceptance and contractual liability all matter.

Customers and markets

We review clients’ insurance requirements, including overseas contracts. Stating a sum insured in a client contract does not establish that the insurer’s quotation meets every requirement.

Connection with cyber cover

We distinguish claims for IT services from your own costs of a cyber incident. We check for gaps between these areas.

02 / Preparing for the discussion

You do not need to have all the documents straight away.

Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.

What should you prepare?

A description of services, a revenue breakdown, examples of clients' requirements and current policies. No source code, passwords or access credentials.

We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.

03 / An important distinction

Before you choose cover.

Does IT liability insurance cover contractual penalties and every delay?

This cannot be assumed. Contractually assumed liability, performance guarantees and penalties require separate examination. Not every project-related loss is insurable.

What determines the price?

It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.

BTLA / IN PRACTICE

From your business situation to a decision.

SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION

Before you request a quote.

What affects the cost?

  • Services and turnover
  • Client countries and contractual requirements
  • Limit and claims history

These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.

What will help our first conversation?

  • Description of services and the company’s technological role
  • Required limit and contract clauses
  • Current policy, if you have one

Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.

Are IT professional indemnity and cyber insurance interchangeable?

You should not assume this. An error in a client service and an incident in your own systems are different scenarios. We will check which solutions address each.

What happens after you report a claim?

We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.

I'd rather start with a conversation
