BTLA Broker / Property, machinery and investment projects

Machinery breakdown insurance — MB.
Check cover for essential equipment.

Damage to a critical machine can stop the entire process. We help review machinery breakdown cover and coordinate it with property insurance and protection against the consequences of an interruption.

For businesses whose work depends on reliable machinery.

BEAVER AND SUPERPARROT / BUSINESS IN PRACTICE

The machine stopped. Repayments didn’t.

Beaver found the machine in his policy and breathed a sigh of relief. SuperParrot checked what it was actually insured against.

Simply saying “I have insurance” is sometimes not enough. Let’s compare the causes of damage covered by the contract, exclusions and interruption consequences — machinery cover does not automatically protect lost profits.

01 / Needs analysis

What will we establish before comparing quotes?

Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.

What do we check in these areas?

The machine’s role in the process

We ask about equipment type, age, servicing and its importance to production. We identify machinery that cannot be replaced quickly.

Cause of damage

We check how the offer defines mechanical and electrical breakdowns. Wear and tear and routine maintenance costs must be distinguished from insured events.

Repair and reinstatement

We discuss the valuation basis, parts, transport and commissioning costs. The equipment's book value may be a different reference point from its reinstatement cost.

02 / Preparing for the discussion

You do not need to have all the documents straight away.

Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.

What should you prepare?

List of critical equipment, values, years of manufacture, servicing information and breakdown history.

We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.

03 / An important distinction

Before you choose cover.

Does machinery cover include lost profit?

Not automatically. Machine repair costs and the financial consequences of downtime need separate analysis. For interruption following a breakdown, we check the possibility of MLoP cover.

What determines the price?

It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.

BTLA / IN PRACTICE

From your business situation to a decision.

SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION

Before you request a quote.

What affects the cost?

  • Type, value and age of machinery
  • Operation and maintenance
  • Scope of cover and excesses

These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.

What will help our first conversation?

  • List of key machines
  • Equipment values and key details
  • Servicing and previous breakdown details

Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.

Is cover for the machine enough during an interruption?

Equipment repair costs and the consequences of interruption must be considered separately. Parts delivery times and the machine's importance to revenue are also worth discussing.

What happens after you report a claim?

We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.

I'd rather start with a conversation
