BTLA Broker / Liability and professions
Product recall.
Prepare for a product batch recall.
A defective batch may require rapid identification of customers, collection of goods and organisation of the entire recall. We clarify needs relating to product recall costs separately from the liability review itself.
For businesses where a defective batch could require a product recall.
01 / Needs analysis
What will we establish before comparing quotes?
Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.
What do we check in these areas?
Reason for recall
We discuss which events would trigger cover. Not every quality defect, commercial complaint or voluntary replacement meets the definition of an insured event.
Operating costs
We need to discuss notification, transport, sorting, storage and disposal. Each category of cost and its limits must be checked in the particular offer.
Organisational readiness
We ask about batch traceability, recall procedures and the division of responsibility in the supply chain. A clearly described process helps prepare an enquiry to the insurance market.
02 / Preparing for the discussion
You do not need to have all the documents straight away.
Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.
What should you prepare?
Production process description, batch identification system, recall procedure, sales countries and customer contracts.
We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.
03 / An important distinction
Before you choose cover.
Can a policy be taken out after a defect has been discovered?+
New cover should not be treated as funding for a recall already known about. Such a situation must be disclosed immediately and separated from an enquiry about future risks.
What determines the price?+
It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.
SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION
Before you request a quote.
What affects the cost?
- Product types and sales markets
- Batch size and traceability
- Covered costs and limits
These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.
What will help our first conversation?
- Products and distribution
- How batches are identified
- Defective product response plan
Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.
Why is batch traceability important?
It helps determine the scale and organisation of a potential recall. We discuss how the company traces its product and which costs it wants included when analysing offers.
What happens after you report a claim?
We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.
