BTLA Broker / Liability and professions

Environmental damage.
Consider the consequences of environmental incidents.

Substances, waste and installations may lead to remediation costs and claims from third parties. We analyse environmental needs separately, rather than relying solely on general public liability insurance.

For businesses whose activities involve pollution risks.

01 / Needs analysis

What will we establish before comparing quotes?

Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.

What do we check in these areas?

Sources of risk

We ask about operations, substance storage, internal transport and waste management. Locations and land use also matter.

Liability and costs

We check proposed cover for preventive measures, remediation and third-party claims. Different obligations may have different bases and limits in the policy.

Nature of the event

We distinguish between sudden incidents, gradual pollution and conditions that existed before the contract was concluded. The offer must clearly state which circumstances are outside the cover.

02 / Preparing for the discussion

You do not need to have all the documents straight away.

Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.

What should you prepare?

Process descriptions, locations, relevant operating permits and previous incidents — we will discuss document details during our conversation.

We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.

03 / An important distinction

Before you choose cover.

Is an environmental extension to liability insurance enough?

You cannot assess this from the clause name alone. The types of costs, when damage occurs, the area covered and restrictions should be compared with standalone environmental insurance.

What determines the price?

It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.

SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION

Before you request a quote.

What affects the cost?

  • Processes, substances and locations
  • Safeguards and incident history
  • Covered costs and limits

These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.

What will help our first conversation?

  • Description of processes and substances
  • Locations and surroundings of the plant
  • Response to a leak

Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.

Is standard liability insurance enough for pollution?

This needs checking. The event’s nature, cost types and policy wording may matter. We will discuss specific operational scenarios and quotation terms.

What happens after you report a claim?

We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.

I'd rather start with a conversation
