BTLA Broker / Property, machinery and investment projects

Contractors' plant and machinery — CPM.
Include equipment used on the construction site.

Excavators, cranes and loaders change locations and operating conditions. We help organise cover for construction equipment during work, downtime and moves between contracts.

For contractors, owners and users of construction equipment.

BEAVER AND SUPERPARROT / BUSINESS IN PRACTICE

The machine stopped. Repayments didn’t.

Beaver found the machine in his policy and breathed a sigh of relief. SuperParrot checked what it was actually insured against.

Simply saying “I have insurance” is sometimes not enough. Let’s compare the causes of damage covered by the contract, exclusions and interruption consequences — machinery cover does not automatically protect lost profits.

01 / Needs analysis

What will we establish before comparing quotes?

Availability, premium, limits, excesses and exclusions depend on risk assessment and the specific contract terms. Sending an enquiry does not activate cover.

What do we check in these areas?

Machinery and use

We gather information about the type of equipment, operators and work sites. We describe rented, borrowed and leased equipment separately.

Transport and parking

We check when the machine is on site, at base or in transit. Theft prevention requirements should be achievable in practice.

Relationship to the construction project

Cover for the machine itself must be compared with CAR/EAR contract works and business liability policies. We do not assume all a contractor’s equipment is already covered under the investor’s contract.

02 / Preparing for the discussion

You do not need to have all the documents straight away.

Provide basic information in the questionnaire. If you are unsure about something, describe it briefly or choose a conversation. Once we understand your needs, we will establish what data is required for further analysis.

What should you prepare?

A list of machines and their values, work sites, transport arrangements, security measures and the finance provider's requirements.

We will agree documents and details individually. The form starts contact; do not use it to send sensitive data or third-party documents.

03 / An important distinction

Before you choose cover.

Is CPM the same as machinery liability insurance?

No. Cover for your own equipment and liability for damage to others serve different purposes. You must also establish the obligations arising from how the particular vehicle is driven and used.

What determines the price?

It depends on the subject matter and scale of the risk, the cover, limits, claims history and the terms offered by the insurer. First, we need information about your situation. We do not provide a misleading quote based on the product name alone.

SPECIFICS / BEFORE A DECISION

Before you request a quote.

What affects the cost?

  • Type, value and age of machinery
  • Locations of use and security measures
  • Cover, transport and claims history

These are starting points for a conversation. A meaningful price comparison requires a defined scope and terms of cover.

What will help our first conversation?

  • List of machines and their values
  • Workplaces and storage locations
  • Lease or rental requirements

Don't have everything? Start with a brief description. We will establish what can be added later.

Does rented equipment also need to be included?

Yes. It is worth checking obligations in the rental agreement and who must arrange cover. Ownership and equipment use help determine the solution.

What happens after you report a claim?

We will contact you about your needs, clarify the information and agree the scope of further analysis. An enquiry alone does not put cover in place.

I'd rather start with a conversation
